At the Secretary-General's High Level Meeting on Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on the 24 September 2018, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, announced that Canada will support the Global Infrastructure Hub (GI Hub) to establish an ancillary office in Toronto to support its operations in North America.
The GI Hub welcomes the Canadian Government’s strong commitment to sustainable development, and growing the world’s economy through effective infrastructure planning and investment. We sincerely thank Prime Minister Trudeau for Canada’s generous contribution to the GI Hub, and look forward to working together to improve infrastructure procurement and delivery around the world.
Investments in infrastructure can play a significant role in fuelling long-term, sustainable economic growth. The GI Hub’s Global Infrastructure Outlook report shows that on current trends, the world needs to invest an additional US$5.8 trillion in infrastructure to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals of universal access to drinking water, sanitation and electricity by 2030.
With our partners, the GI Hub is working with countries to build capacity, develop sound policy and governance frameworks and facilitate greater private sector investment to help deliver much-needed public infrastructure.
